De Molen = The Mill

Take a fully guided tour of Foxton's unique, operational, replica of a 17th century Dutch flour mill.

You will learn about the construction and operation of this Horowhenua landmark, why it came to be built in a small town in New Zealand and the tenacity of the community that made it happen, along, with history notes of our town and Dutch Wind and Water mills.

Ascending three floors, you'll get up close (and maybe involved!!) with the operational areas of the mill, along with a chance to see its inner workings, sails turning and giant mill stones turning grain into flour (this is wind dependant).

Venture out to the viewing balcony to see the surrounding landscape.

Estimated tour time -  60 - 90 minutes

Pricing - Fully Guided

Adult - $20.00 Per Person

12 - 17 years - $10.00 per person

Under 12 years Free (accompanied by an adult)

Family Pass - $50

Maximum of 6 people with a Maximum of 2 adults.

School Pass - $60 per group of 20.

Booking in advance is essential for school groups.

Limitations and Considerations

De Molen is a fully operational flour mill that has heavy and powerful moving parts that need to be respected at all times.

De Molen, at times, has an amount of flour dust on all surfaces and in the air.

We do our utmost to make De Molen safe for your visit while still encouraging up close viewing of the Mill.

If you follow and practice the safety instructions given, you will always be safe.

Under 12 year olds must be accompanied by an adult (18+) at all times.

There are three flights of steep stairs to climb that require caution.

Slow, backwards, egress of the steep stairs is recommended.

Some visitors may experience vertigo on the viewing balcony.

Flour dust will, at times, be airborne which may not be suitable for those with allergens. (Masks can be supplied)
